Project for the Rehabilitation and Development of Orphaned Mining Sites : SONAMINES and MMR fine-tune their strategy

A delegation from Moonlight Mining and Restoration (MMR) was received in audience by the General Manager of the National Mining Corporation (SONAMINES), his partner in the project, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Defining together the modus operandi and the prerequisites for the effective implementation of the project was the main item on the agenda during the working session between SONAMINES and MMR. Exchanges between the two Parties gave more insight into this key project, which could take shape in the second half of 2023. Most precisely, the project will consist in restoring and allocating some mining sites in the East Region of Cameroon, in order to develop an important agricultural activity that will favor the creation of large-scale production basins, with the proven expertise of GREENHOUSE Ventures Ltd, a partner in the project. This is a real boon for the people in this locality, as they will see their land which had been devasted as a result of mining regenerated; a golden opportunity to prepare for the post-mining period, especially in terms of reconversion.

At the end of the working session and after consideration of the different components of the project, the implementation strategy was adopted to the satisfaction of both parties who did not fail to express it. For Serge Hervé Boyogueno, the implementation of this project is in line with the missions of rehabilitation and restoration of orphaned mining sites assigned to SONAMINES, in conjunction with sectoral administrations. It is therefore an opportunity for it to contribute effectively to the development of the Cameroon mining sector. Roland FOMUNDAM, the General Manager of MMR, sees this project as a challenge for the young managers that they are, an opportunity to significantly develop the selected site through its implementation. It is with great enthusiasm that he is eager to commence work and thus make his contribution to the progress of a prosperous Cameroon. At the end of the audience, the General Manager of MMR, offered a drone to SONAMINES to support his preferred partner, in his prospecting activities.
