Funding of SONAMINES S.A. Projects: China Eximbank Extends a Hand of Collaboration

The General Manager of the National Mining Corporation (SONAMINES S.A.) received a delegation from China Eximbank (CEXIM) at his headquarters on Friday, 20th March 2026. The delegation was led by the Regional Director for Africa in charge of Sovereign Loan Development, Mr YANG BIN, accompanied by a team from the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), led by the Head of the Division of Cooperation with Emerging Countries. Directeur Régional Afrique du Développement des prêts Souverains, YANG BIN, qu’accompagnait une équipe du Ministère de l’Economie, de la Planification et de l’Aménagement du Territoire (MINEPAT), avec à sa tête, le Chef de Division de la Coopération avec les pays émergents.

Discussions were centred on the development policy for the mining industry in Cameroon in general, the funding requirements for SONAMINES S.A. projects, and the structuring of the proposed partnership.

Serge Hervé Boyogueno Mr Serge Hervé Boyogueno seized this opportunity to present the organisation under his responsibility as the State’s executive arm entrusted with the mission to develop and promote Cameroon’s mining sector, as well as manage its interests within this sector. It is in this context that SONAMINES S.A. operates, being firmly committed to seeking technical and financial partners for the development of its projects, which include the Akonolinga rutile project, the Nkamouna cobalt-nickel-manganese project, the SIKOUM limestone project, the Mbilntangan and Alouma quarry projects, the construction of a gold refinery and the setting up of a laboratory for mineralogical analyses.

The delegation from the Chinese financial institution thus had the opportunity to review SONAMINES S.A. project portfolio and will act as a bridge between the young organisation and Chinese companies.

This first meeting between the two institutions laid the foundations for future cooperation geared towards the financing of SONAMINES S.A. projects.
