Promotion of Bilingualism: Well Done, SONAMINES

The monitoring and assessment mission for the implementation of the national policy on the promotion of official languages paid a visit to SONAMINES on Friday, March 18, 2021. le vendredi 18 Mars 2021.

A Bilingualism Day was instituted at the National Mining Corporation by the top management, stating specifically that, all written or oral communication between staff or with users should be made in English for all French-speaking staff and in French for all English-speaking staff, every Wednesday.

The implementation of this measure was quite successful, with SONAMINES having the merit of being ranked among the best students of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism. The mission was conducted by Mr. ABOUEM A TCHOYI and Mrs. ANGOUING Françoise, who had a working session with all the staff at the headquarters of the corporation.

During the discussions, for which the stage was set by the General Manager, Serge Hervé BOYOGUENO, during his welcoming remarks, the Members of the Commission were impressed by the level of implementation of bilingualism despite the fact that the corporation is still in its early years. More than 2 hours of heated debates without waffle, during which the pros and cons of living together were scrutinized, and especially its benefits for social cohesion. Possible solutions were suggested by the staff of SONAMINES in a bid to make multiculturalism a shared experience for all Cameroonians.

It is on a positive note that the Members of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism (NCPBM), took leave of SONAMINES, with a promise to renew this rich experience that will certainly contribute in shifting the lines.
