L<\/em>Both parties met on Thursday, 12th March 2026, at the headquarters of the National Mining Corporation (SONAMINES S.A.) to establish a framework for a mutually beneficial cooperation.<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Mr Ousmanou ALADJI HAMADOU, President of the National Union of Promoters of Gold and Diamond Purchasing Offices and Gold Prospectors of Cameroon (SYNAPROBADIOCAM), did not beat around the bush as he unfolded the main purpose of his visit to the General Manager of the National Mining Corporation (SONAMINES S.A.), which was the accreditation of Marketing Offices.<\/p>\n

The meeting, which became an avenue for advocacy, was the occasion for SYNAPROBADIOCAM to outline the difficulties faced by its members (most of whom are Purchasing Offices) in carrying out their activities. According to the latter, these asperities are due to inconsistencies in the legal and regulatory framework governing the marketing of precious and semi-precious substances in Cameroon, characterized by SONAMINES S.A.\u2019s monopoly in the gold sector through the exclusive rights it holds. All of which would explain SONAMINES\u2019 failure to issue accreditations to Marketing Offices despite numerous requests.<\/p>\n

In welcoming this initiative, the General Manager clearly pointed out that SONAMINES S.A. is a public company vested with the power to manage the State\u2019s interests in the mining sector, and endowed with a roadmap that is fully in line with the Head of State\u2019s Vision as enshrined in the Mining Code and its implementing texts, which make the Corporation the Single Marketing Office for precious and semi-precious substances, that can approve other offices. This legal and institutional framework sufficiently reflects the State\u2019s strategic decision to regain control over its gold resources through SONAMINES.<\/p>\n

Bien plus, Serge Herv\u00e9 Boyogueno<\/strong> Furthermore, Mr Serge Herv\u00e9 Boyogueno revealed that, currently, more than a hundred purchasing offices, duly authorized by the Ministry in charge of mines, are operating in this sector with no visibility. He emphasized that in 2025, which is the first year of implementation of the regulations governing the marketing of precious substances, not a single gram of gold was exported through formal channels; all of which raises a concern about the use made of all these hundred or so approvals. This, according to him, is a critical situation which does not only undermine the traceability of gold resources, but equally the credibility of Cameroon\u2019s mining sector, at a time when the State is committed to building up its strategic gold reserves.<\/p>\n

Thus, SONAMINES S.A. intends to focus on establishing control, restoring order within the precious and semi-precious minerals\u2019 market, and exercising exclusive rights over the purchase and marketing of gold and diamonds throughout the national territory, prior to any potential issuing of an approval to a third party. Mr Serge Herv\u00e9 BOYOGUENO, appealed to everyone\u2019s sense of patriotism and responsibility, recalling that SONAMINES S.A. is not a foe to the Purchasing Offices, but their partner. However, for the State to really benefit from this sector, SONAMINES S.A. absolutely must get a clear picture of the situation. It therefore remains open for dialogue and the establishment of a collaborative platform for the betterment of Cameroon, the gold resources of which are subject to fraudulent exports; hence the idea of establishing a framework for bipartite collaboration.
